What we need from the mix

Send the final mix as WAV or AIFF, 24-bit, no limiter on the master bus (roughly 3–6 dB headroom). Sample rate as produced (44.1 or 48 kHz). No MP3 as master source. Albums: consistent mix levels between songs help cohesive album mastering.

Mix from Mixing with us? Project files may already exist — still confirm the final mix version in writing. External mixes welcome with a short reference note.

Streaming and download

Default delivery: 24-bit WAV for download stores and archive; 16-bit WAV or high-quality MP3 only if you explicitly need them. Platforms normalize — we document integrated LUFS and true peak so re-uploads are comparable.

Target ranges often sit between −14 and −9 LUFS integrated depending on genre; louder isn’t always better if dynamics suffer. We agree reference and genre before the first export.

Bandcamp or your own shop benefit from 24-bit files; streaming-only releases often don’t need a separate “extra loud” master when platforms normalize anyway. Duplicate masters only when you deliberately want different targets (e.g. club floor vs living room).

True peak below −1 dBTP limits inter-sample clipping in lossy encoders — relevant when your host creates MP3 or AAC.

Alternate versions

  • Instrumental — no lead vocal, for sync pitches.
  • Clean / radio — without explicit sections if present in the mix.
  • Vinyl — longer programs, bass mono considerations, sequenced side A/B masters.
  • DDP / CD — on request for physical manufacturing; allow lead time.

Define extra versions upfront to save revision loops. 2 rounds are for fine-tuning.

Metadata and naming

ISRC and UPC go in at your distributor — we deliver audio, not store logins. Filenames: Artist_Title_Master_48k24.wav. Albums: prefix track numbers. Multiple LUFS targets: suffix _streaming, _download.

Content liability: Disclaimer. Clear rights before release; we don’t knowingly master unlawfully used material.

Approval and monitoring

Listen on headphones, speakers, and an everyday device (phone speaker, car). Note timecodes instead of vague adjectives. Approval can happen in our mastering suite in Margareten — Take U4 to Pilgramgasse, then walk about 7 minutes via Rechte Wienzeile toward Stapelgasse. Alternatively tram 6 or 18 to Margaretengürtel / Kettenbrückengasse, then a short walk..

We share LUFS values in writing; on albums we check relative loudness between tracks. Once approved, you receive the final package.

Don’t A/B your reference playlist non-stop during approval — switch deliberately between your song and the reference or you lose perspective. Singles often need one focused pass plus an overnight break; albums benefit from listening to transitions together.

If vinyl is planned, discuss total time per side early — that shapes EQ and limiting differently from streaming-only masters.

Archive and follow-on work

Masters are archived 24 months. Reissues or bonus tracks later need local copies. Episodes with music intros follow podcast handoff logic — Podcast formats.
